Yep, we have designed the site to work similarly to an mmorpg, in that you gain experience points (XP) by completing tasks - such as adding a new picture. XP lets you progress through the levels of membership which is currently capped at level 10. Different levels have priveleges for access to different services within the site. High level members (and people who help beta test the application) will also be rewarded with unique items e.g. customized skins for their profiles. Some advantages of level gain are purely cosmetic, or just for fun. Others are tangible e.g. you cannot directly contact someone of a higher level than you, or use the chat functions before level 3. As the site grows more rewards will be added that have real life benefits for our members in addition to the virtual ones.
Here's an example of the sort of awards you could be getting.
This is a small sample of the awards in development. They will of course be applied retroactively to current members, so get involved.
We're still in a testing phase so please excuse the mess, that said, feel free to sign up and take a look around.
If you have any ideas that are not currently listed in the 'In Development' section drop us an email. If you feel you have more than bright ideas to offer - donations of hosting, time, money or expertise - then please get in touch via the contact form.

OK so we had a few issues with the registration system and some people couldn't get signed up. Sorry about that. It's all sorted out again now and registration is open again. Thanks to those of you who let us know and please keep visiting for more updates.

Thanks to everyone who helped get the beta site up and running, we're live and ready for the bugs to start piling up. I would encourage everyone to get signed up as soon as possible and add a couple of your game characters to the database. The more people that use the site, the more useful it will be to others. On a separate note I am looking for some game enthusiasts to help compile a mini-portal style page for each of the supported games (listed on the home page). If you're passionate about any of these mmorpg's then please get in touch via the contact form and help us add more information for players, and get your work published too. I hope you all enjoy the site, and look out for some Guild Wars 2 information coming up in the next week.

I have been playing the Cataclysm beta for a couple of weeks now and my Goblin Shaman is shaping up nicely. Many screen shots and even complete videos of the new terrain are available on YouTube. The big rumour circulating in the community however is the potential late release of the expansion. A lot of people are concerned that this release will be pushed back to the end of the year or even next year. This is purely speculation based on the fact that Cataclysm could take a similar time to go from beta to release as The Burning Crusade did, if so we're looking at a longer wait than anticipated. That said, the game itself is looking great and many new features are really exciting. Personally I am most excited about the re-introduction of CC (crowd control) and some real tactics to 5-man dungeons, and equipment standards being homogenized for lower frequency players to enjoy the best too.

We have now played the introductory event from Realtime Worlds which gives early access to the game to take a look around and get a feel for the place. First impressions were pretty mixed, especially as this an actual release not a beta event. It looks very good and the interface, graphics and general feel are very slick. It will be immediately familiar for mmo players to work out how the game works but different enough to be interesting. After a few hours play however I would say that PVP combat which is the basis for a large part of the game is a little 'clunky' at the moment. You don't have much of an idea if you have hit an opponent with your weapon, and whether or not they die or even lose any health is a little bit of a lottery. It may be server lag due to high demand for this even but elastic banding was an issue and other players appearing out of nowhere was a frequent occurence. That said I look forward to giving it another go after the public release!

After two years of somewhat turbulent existence the mature mmorpg AoC has finally released its first major expansion. Is it any good? Yes. Is it very different? No. In truth RotGS hasn't changed much as far as the existing game is concerned. There are no new classes to play and no new levels to attain, but there is a new race of oriental styled people called the Khitai. They look great and bring with them an appropriate Far East style of armour and weapons to the game. There are new play areas for levels 20-40 and level 80 dungeons and raids (tier 4). It's around £20 and fairly quick to download so why not give it a whirl.
